Touring the Rossdale Power Plant

When I learned that tours were being offered of the former Rossdale Power Plant by Prairie Sky Tours, I signed up for the first available tour immediately! It did not disappoint, either. A very informative guide filled us in about the history of the plant and the lands on which it was built, dating back many thousands of years. We learned about its expansion, decommission, architecture, and a little old lady who was given a chatty bird to cover up the noise of the nearby plant.

The Future of the Power Plant

At the end of the tour, you are shown a few renderings by Dialog of potential future uses, all of which are pretty cool. There is no reason why this couldn’t become the next Forks, which will draw a lot of people and businesses. I’d really like to see the most ambitious idea happen, the Prairie Sky Gondola. That would be amazing! For anyone who thinks that it is a waste of taxpayer money, you need to understand that it is a private initiative. It is not something that the City of Edmonton has proposed or will pay for. If you don’t like it for other reasons, that’s fine, just make sure your arguments are factual. Check out the Rossdale Regeneration page for more info.
